PHILOSOPHY
My focus of the portfolio is a look at what led to my style emerging from an intentional mess that I consider my complex background growing up in San Francisco as a Peruvian/Palestinian first-generation American. The creation of these bold pieces originates to speak a story from the chaotic reality in my lens. Visual media is a staple of communications on a massive scale, it is representative of influence. My mistakes in these pieces are weaknesses that have since faded into strengths throughout the span of several years consistently practicing and expanding to various art forms.

SOCIAL COMMENTARY
A part of my art that naturally arose in my thought process as the son of a refugee. My mother has experienced injustices from different institutions and her struggles inspired me on most of these pieces to capture that story.
Concrete Oppression
A profound symbolic piece to my heritage, it is a comment on the plight of the Palestinian people. Families are forced out of their farms and cooped into refugee camps (a.k.a ghettos) with little to no infrastructure for sewage, food, water, education, etc. Israeli tanks are pointed at another Palestinian child who is armed only with a rock to resist the "concrete oppression" that molds their fate. It is a story of the voiceless, the oppressed, the desperate, the innocent who live in a confused state of terror but still hold a brave face to defend their homeland.

A harsh projection of the Israeli army develops in generations of Palestinians through the methods of "Zionist" ideology. This is a direct effect of Western intervention in mandating land during and after World War 1 to house displaced Jewish refugees from around Eastern Europe. Resentment has built from the Palestinian people due to years of increased dehumanization from the military force in annexing large portions of Palestine as a result of retaliatory terrorism. A shadow of imperialism that leaves innocent lives today in the crossfire of hatred. Someone is always blamed, who will tell the story.

More popularly known as 5.56 NATO, this round is a standard of military ammunition that was praised for its increased velocity at the time. Ultimately, it is another innovational stop in the industry of war.
Belief and Filth
A taboo juxtaposed depiction of biblical references that crudely criticize the use of religion under hierarchal regimes.

A freehand, graphite, still life, of the reality I saw every day growing up in the city. An apparent echo of lives being haunted by the needle and the spoon.
Control
Cities are destroyed and lives are forgotten within the palm of a powerful hand playing the forefront of political affairs. Control as a people is not always the story for democracy in U.S cities burdened by political opportunism.
